Ian Dawson Tyson CM AOE (born 25 September 1933) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, best known for his songs "Four Strong Winds" and "Someday Soon". He was also one half of the duo Ian & Sylvia. Tyson was born to British immigrants in Victoria, and grew up in Duncan . A rodeo rider in his late teens and early twenties, he took up the guitar while recovering from an injury he sustained in a fall. He has named fellow Canadian country artist Wilf Carter as a musical influence.

Cowboyography by Ian Tyson on Vanguard. COWBOYOGRAPHY (originally released 1986) and I OUTGREW THE WAGON (1989) are the first titles in an extensive Ian Tyson reissue programme currently underway through Ace/Vanguard. The inspiration for Tyson’s lyrics may lie on the Canadian plains but they could as easily be sourced from the heart of Texas. The full-sounding instrumentation that supports the performance adds to the anthemic quality of its lyric.
