Arco Iris (Spanish for Rainbow) were a rock group from the late 1960s until the late 1970s in Argentina, influential in Argentine rock history. While tagged as an 'acoustic' Argentine rock band in the beginning, Arco Iris were pioneers (with Chilean band Los Jaivas), infusing rock with regional folk music, as well as one of the first bands that projected their beliefs through their music and lifestyle (in their case around the art of yoga).

Arco Iris was a folk and progressive rock band from El Palomar, Buenos Aires, Argentina formed in 1968. The line-up first started with singer-songwriter leader Gustavo Santaolalla, Ara Tokatlián, bassist Guillermo Bordarampé, drummer Horacio Gianello, and spiritual guide Danais Winnycka. Gustavo Santaolalla was trying really hard to get signed his band, "The Crows", until he met Ricardo Kleiman, who advised him to sing in spanish. If you can deal with a tad of the ol Latin singing this is a brilliant energetic jazz/rock fusion album full of surprises from "down" under in South America circa 1977. Obvious these guys where influenced by Mahavishnu pick your favorite fusion group popular of the 70's the musicians here had the chops! Full of epic moog solos and flutey passages done with taste. The recording is also decent considering much of this music was recorded on a budget the cd at least which I imagine is from a needle drop sound clean and instrumentation such as the bass comes across clearly. Well worth owning if you like good jazz/rock fusion.
