Taking to the stage with little in the way of fanfare, Winwood and his 4 fellow musicians, all casually dressed and avoiding any hint of the trappings of the ‘star’ lifestyle, waste no time in getting to the point of their set – to play the hits for us. Opening his set with The Spencer Davis Group’s ‘I’m a Man’ Winwood, sat behind his Hammond organ, seemed happy and excited to be in Glasgow for the opening night of the tour.

Winwood is the first compilation album of music featuring Steve Winwood. This two-record set was issued in 1971 by United Artists Records and features music which Winwood performed with The Spencer Davis Group, Powerhouse, Traffic and Blind Faith. UA Records issued this album after Winwood's band Traffic left UA when their home label Island Records set up their own American operation

As I was marveling at how great Steve Winwood looked for a man who surely must be in his mid-60's, considering that he was fronting The Spencer Davis Group way back in 1963, I quickly remembered that he was only 15 years old at the time. Talk about your musical prodigies. That would make him only 55 at the time of this performance.
