Weezer (often referred to as The Blue Album and commonly abbreviated as TBA) is the debut album by Weezer. It was released on May 10, 1994 by Geffen Records. The album was produced by former Cars frontman Ric Ocasek and recorded in Electric Lady Studios in New York City. Weezer spawned the popular singles "Undone - The Sweater Song" and "Buddy Holly", both of which were responsible for launching Weezer into mainstream success with the aid of music videos directed by Spike Jonze.

Having trouble being patient until The Black Album? We got you covered (literally). The Teal Album is out now - the ultimate covers collection with TOTO, Tears For Fears, Eurythmics, A-Ha, The Turtles, Black Sabbath, Electric Light Orchestra, TLC, Michael Jackson & Ben E. King.

Weezer (Blue Album) slashchild This album defines not only Weezer, but also '90s alternative rock as a whole. This album defines not only Weezer, but also '90s alternative rock as a whole.

Even if you lived through it, it's hard to fathom exactly why Weezer were disliked, even loathed, when they released their debut album in the spring of 1994. If you grew up in the years after the heyday of grunge, it may even seem absurd that the band were considered poseurs, hair metal refugees passing themselves off as alt-rock by adapting a few tricks from the Pixies and Nirvana songbooks and sold to MTV with stylish videos. That's why the band had hits with this album - and not just hits, but era-defining singles like the deliberate dissonant crawl of "Undone - The Sweater Song," the postironic love song of "Buddy Holly," the surging "Say It Ain't So" - but could still seem like a cult band to the dedicated fans; it sounded like the group.

Weezer's "The Teal Album," released in 2019. The covers collection comes ahead of a new album of Weezer originals. Dubbed "The Black Album," it's slated for release on March 1 and was produced by TV On The Radio's Dave Sitek. Its lead single, "Can't Knock The Hustle," is a hit at Alternative Radio and the band's 16th song to chart in the Top 10 at the format. Weezer hits the road this spring for an arena tour with the Pixies and is set to play Coachella's main stage in April.
