Rondo - Allegro Ma Non Troppo, Violin Sonata No. 6 in A Major, Op. 30: I. Allegro, I. Fritz Kreisler (February 2, 1875 – January 29, 1962) was an Austria-born American violinist and composer; one of the most famous violinists of his day. He is noted for his sweet tone and expressive phrasing. He produced a characteristic sound, which was immediately recognizable as his own. Although he was a violinist of the Franco-Belgian school, his tone and phrasing are nonetheless reminiscent of the gemütlich lifestyle of pre-war Vienna. Kreisler was born in Vienna to a Jewish father and a Roman Catholic mother; he was baptised at age twelve.

Fritz Kreisler, violin; Franz Rupp, piano. No program notes; 1-page Kreisler chronology. It is a remarkable feat of re-mastering that we can hear the iconic Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962) in a program recorded sixty-five years ago. In 1936 Kreisler was sixty-one years old. What we are hearing, then, is performance practice as of Vienna, Kreislers birthplace, during the late nineteenth century.

Beethoven Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61 (published 1928); 3 cadenzas. Farewell to Cucullain (Londonderry Air), traditional tune arranged for violin, cello and piano by Kreisler and his brother, Hugo, a cellist (published 1922). Caprice viennois : for violin, cello and piano (arranged by Robert Biedermann, 1928). Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser, Austrian National Anthem.
