Wit's End is the fifth full-length album by Cass McCombs. It was released on Domino Records in April 2011, becoming the first of two albums released by McCombs that year. The first single from the album, "County Line", was accompanied by two different music videos. All songs written and composed by Cass McCombs. Will Canzoneri – Hammond B3, clavinet, celeste. Chris Cohen – electric guitar, 12-string acoustic guitar.
Singer-songwriter Cass McCombs named his fifth album WIT'S END, not WITS' END. The distinction is slight, but telling. Because "wits" usually refers to an overall sense of sanity while "wit" is more commonly associated with one's cleverness or humor. And this record does not mark the end of McCombs' good judgment. While he may have let his wit get the better of him before through knowingly obtuse lyrics and showy arrangements, WIT'S END fittingly leaves those days behind. This is a gorgeous album of despair, the most believable evidence yet that McCombs is living up to his own legend. Catacombs had McCombs stripping away the instrumentation he had built up around his songs, ending with a bare naturalism that suited him well. And WIT'S END goes even further, its empty spaces and deliberate tempos matching the album's immense loneliness.

Singer-songwriter Cass McCombs' fifth-and-a-half album, Wit's End, is the result of two years recording in various homes and studios in California, New York, New Jersey and Chicago. The album is full of sounds that conjure the colors purple and black; this is his darkest record to date. Cass is not a man afraid of his own shadow, for in this environment of complete darkness, no shadows can be cast. This is a world of total feeling. Wit's End was produced by Cass with Ariel Rechtshaid; the same duo that created his previous album, Catacombs.
