A latter-day collaborator, clarinetist Kenny Davern, described a Condon gig: "It was always a thrill to get a call from Eddie and with a gig involved even more so. I remember eating beforehand with Bernie (Previn, trumpet) and Lou (McGarity, trombone) and everyone being in good spirits. There was a buzz on, we'd all had a taste and there was a great feel to the music. Condon toured and appeared at jazz festivals until 1971. Ballin' the Jack (Commodore, 1989). The Roaring Twenties" was longtime Condon drummer George Wettling's idea - the goal being to "celebrate the musicians who were. the principal influences on jazz in the twenties. Tracks: . eadowlands. Both are quasi-concept albums, the first (1962's Midnight in Moscow) a ld session prompted by Kenny Ball's surprise hit with the title song one year earlier. The lineup includes trumpeter Bobby Hackett, pianist Dick Cary, Peanuts Hucko on clarinet, and Lou McGarity on trombone; Hucko, especially, does some great work during the opener, "Meadowland," and a stately version of "Londonderry Ai.
