Dive is the second studio album by American ambient musician Scott Hansen's project Tycho. Dive took approximately five years to complete. As with previous Tycho records, Dive was made mostly with hardware production devices and analog sound generators; in fact, many of the sounds that appear on the album were produced on a Minimoog. The only time digital software was used was for arranging the songs and adding EQ and compression to the instrument.

I discovered Tycho with their album 2014 "Awake", a very ambient, shoegazing opus. Dive", released 3 years prior "Awake" is more "popish". It's not a bad thing, I was just not expecting it. I actually like the feel of this album. Not only because I've been huge fan of Boards of Canada and there are a lot of similarities between the two bands but also because I love that balearic electric guitar sound on most of their songs ( I can't really name that time of guitar or effect specifically)

Tycho's tracks are built primarily with synths and sampled live instrumentation, and his electro-organic approach brings to mind leaders in this field like Boards of Canada and Bibio. Sonically, too, he explores terrain similar to those guys': "A Walk" and "Coastal Break" nail a pastoral peacefulness with warm, sepia-toned beats and flourishes of acoustic guitar. What separates Tycho, at least from a lot of the bedroom-oriented artists currently exploring similar sounds, is simple craft. These tracks are OCD-level meticulous.

So many selling the repress as the original. Be careful when buying this.

Chankane
Awesome album musically speaking. Can hear noise noise distortion. This is bizarre, it sounds really good when it's loud. Lots of crack, pops and shit. Not a good press, I have a brand new copy in hand on a rega p3...

Mojar
I want to attribute a "Left Field" sub genre to this album as well. Any thoughts? It's in the same vein as "A Strangely Isolated Place" by Ulrich Schnauss.

Zulkishicage
Although I know my version is not the deluxe (not GF) it has completely different matrix/runouts also with the word "salt" on one side of each disc. Anyone else?

Kahavor
Yes mine has this. The other listing says it came out in 2013, but it was definitely printed in 2012 or earlier.

Mall
Although this album would probably be best described as "down-tempo," as with all other greats in the genre, you can listen to it anywhere and anytime. Catchy melodies and nice beats are given a treatment that sounds like they are played backwards and then fowards again. Ambient textures in the background provide a fuzzy and sunny element to melodies that hover somewhere between upbeat and melancholy. The pressing is superb and clean, nice low end sound.
