Survival is the eleventh studio album by Bob Marley & The Wailers released in 1979. Survival is an album with an outwardly militant theme. Some critics speculate that this was due in part to criticism Marley received for the laid-back, ganja-soaked atmosphere of his previous release, "Kaya", which seemed to sidetrack the urgency of his message. In the song "Africa Unite", Marley proclaims Pan-African solidarity. The song "Zimbabwe" is a hymn dedicated to later-independent Rhodesia

Bob Marley & the Wailers. Biography by William Ruhlmann. Legendary Kingston vocal group formed in 1963 and fronted by Bob Marley.

Things moved fast in the music business of 1973. Less than six months after the Wailers released their first international album, Catch A Fire on 4 May, the conflagration continued with the release of Burnin’ on 19 October. Still billed only as the Wailers, and still led by the three-man vocal front line of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, the band was now moving through the gears with an increasing sense of mission. Although Catch A Fire had not been a hit, the response to it among tastemakers and early adopters had been overwhelming.

Bob Marley is undoubtedly one of the most iconic figures in the history of popular music. The Island era has two distinctive phases, with the departure of Tosh and Bunny Wailer, and the subsequent addition of the I-Threes circa late 1974, yielding differences.
