Gold Dust (Sandy Denny album). Gold Dust is a live album by the late English folk rock singer Sandy Denny. It documents one of Denny's last public performances and was recorded at London's "Sound Circus" venue at the Royalty Theatre, Portugal Street, near Aldwych, London (now the Peacock Theatre) on 27 November 1977
Sandy Denny was at the fore of an entire musical movement (the British folk revival) and was beloved by some of her era's biggest rock bands, including Led Zeppelin and The Who. Sandy Denny's second post-Fairport solo offering, produced by then-future husband Trevor Lucas, is a beautiful blend of the traditional style with which she is most often associated and a slightly more lavish sound that would become more prevalent in her later work. Lucas does an excellent job of balancing the two and creates an exquisite backdrop for Denny's gorgeous songs and majestic voice. Sandy also boasts her best collection of original material, as well as terrific covers of Dylan's "Tomorrow Is a Long Time," featuring Linda Thompson Peters on backing vocals, and the aforementioned "Quiet Joys of Brotherhood.
Sandy Denny biographer Mick Houghton, whose acclaimed Denny biography lends the collection its title, has contributed sleevenotes to the collection, contextualising these rarities within the broader history of Denny’s career, as she made her indelible mark on the folk-rock landscape of the late 60s and early 70s. Having recorded a string of landmark albums, among them Liege And Lief (with Fairport Convention), Fotheringay and Fotheringay 2, the Strawbs outing All Our Own Work, and her own beloved solo recordings, including The North Star Grassman And The Ravens, Denny died all too soon, in 19. .
