Included in this eclectic mix of occult themed bands is the relatively obscure Swiss band THE SHIVER which released its sole artifact WALPURGIS in 1969 and displayed the very first album cover to feature the macabre art of Swiss artist . The title WALPURGIS is thought of as an ancient Pagan holiday or the spring equivalent of Halloween but in modern times is better known as the holy time of the year for the Satanic cults that worship Molech and other dark forces like Lucifer or Satan

Walpurgis, ‘The Shiver’. Giger's first-ever album cover was created in 1969 for Walpurgis, a Swiss psychedelic rock band. Steve Stevens, ‘Atomic Playboys’. Hair-metal guitarist and erstwhile Billy Idol and Vince Neil sideman Steve Stevens commissioned Giger to do the artwork for his 1989 studio debut Atomic Playboys. It was the last time that Giger ever created artwork specifically for use as an album cover. From this point on, any album covers featuring his artwork were the result of licensing agreements.

The final two songs of the album "No Time" and "The Peddle" close off the album with a more noticeable blues sound leading the psychedelic overtones. With the help of . Geiger's first album cover submission (fun fact), the album definitely has its very own unique, foreboding and worthwhile identity which makes it really disappointing to note that not enough know of its existence. Do yourself a favor if you are fond of psychedelic, prog, the blues, or eerie imagery to check this one out.

Rare and the only album of the Swiss group The Shiver, playing at the junction of psychedelia, blues and progressive. Each composition of the musicians once again makes one wonder: how difficult and surprisingly diverse the progress developed in each country separately, even if the leaders were always the UK and the USA. The author of the album cover is the Swiss surrealist painter Hans Rudolf Giger (many movie lovers know him by the design of the film Alien - in 1980 the work brought the artist Oscar ). Here is the original version of the album (without bonuses).

The Shiver were very much a mystery band, until recently, when all was revealed. They were Swiss, formed in May 1967 by blues singer (and guitarist) Dany Rühle, were originally called Der Seiger, and part of the history of Island, via another band called Deaf. Their 1969 self-produced album, which sported a sinister H.R. Giger cover, contained a wide range of psychedelic and progressive styles. Crudely recorded, and often shoddily played, it seemed to be an anthology recorded over a much longer period. It has lots of excellent tracks, and runs a wide gamut of styles, from beat to freak-out psychedelic, and elsewhere. The Shiver were nonetheless constantly surprising.A curious point is that the track Hey Mr. Holy Man, a version of "Dies Irae", is very close to the version by Golgatha. Apparently the single was a big seller in the "Schweizer Hitparade".
