Live at Max's Kansas City is a live album by The Heartbreakers. Recorded at a show on September 16, 1978 at the famous Max's Kansas City nightclub, the album's performance - loud, sloppy, and laden with bawdy introductions and/or lyric changes to many of the familiar songs from their only studio album, . further cemented the band's live reputation. A classic of early punk rock, the album has been called "probably the best official document of any New York band of the er.

Although the performances here are relatively straightforward readings of the album tracks, they bristle with a rabies-like intensity that the studio versions just can't match. Live at the Speakeasy is a jewel in a catalog jammed with poorly recorded, abysmal live performances, and is a wild reminder of just how formidable the Heartbreakers could be on a good night.

The Heartbreakers, also known as Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers to distinguish them from Tom Petty's band, were an American punk rock band, formed in New York City in May, 1975. The band spearheaded the first wave of punk rock. In May 1975, Johnny Thunders (vocals/guitar) and Jerry Nolan (drums) quit the New York Dolls, the same week that Richard Hell (vocals/bass) left Television. Thunders and Nolan invited Hell to join their new band, and Hell quickly agreed
