M. Dawn, among others.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Produced by Chas Chandler. Album Smash Hits (UK Version). Everyday in the week, I'm in a different city If I stay too long, the people try to pull me down, you know what I mean? They talk about me like a dog, talk about the clothes I wear But they don't realize they're the ones who's square. Stone free I'm right now Stone free Don't turn on me back Stone free I'm going on down the highway, yeah Stone free Got to, got to, got to, got to, got to Stone free Ooh hell, bye bye baby Stone free Aw. Stone Free: Tribute to J. .has been added to your Cart. A special album of covers of Hendrix staples by bands you wouldn't expect (. The Cure, The Pretenders, PM Dawn) and by blues giants (Clapton, Buddy Guy). The results are always interesting and frequently eye-opening. I owned it on cassette way about the time it came out in 1993 - and what a trip down Memory Lane! The Cure singing "Purple Rain", Buddy Guy's cover of "Red House", The Spin Doctors doing "Spanish Castle Magic" - and of course - The Pretenders with "Bold As Love".

A confused tribute album more worthwhile as a curiosity than as an album, Stone Free gathers several artists with nothing in common other than the fact that they have recorded a Hendrix tune. Some of the results are surprisingly good (Belly's "Are You Experienced?," in particular), but most of it is cringe-inducing (Spin Doctors and Body Count) or predictably rote (Eric Clapton and the Pretenders).
