Robert Arthur Mould (born October 16, 1960) is an American musician, principally known for his work as guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter for alternative rock bands Hüsker Dü in the 1980s and Sugar in the 1990s. Born in Malone, New York Mould lived in several places, including the Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota area where he attended Macalester College. There, he formed Hüsker Dü in the late 1970s with drummer/singer Grant Hart and bass guitarist Greg Norton.

Bob Mould has announced that his new album Sunshine Rock will arrive in February 2019. The album marks the former Hüsker Dü rocker’s first since 2015’s Patch the Sky as well as his first since moving to Berlin two years ago. Almost four years ago, I made plans for an extended break, Mould said in a statement. I started spending time in Berlin in 2015, found an apartment in 2016, and became a resident in 2017. My time in Berlin has been a life changing experience. Mould has also scheduled a North American tour to coincide with the arrival of Sunshine Rock in February. I’ve heard this thing about ‘guitars are dead’ at least five times, and they always seem to come back, Mould added of his new album, whose sound harkens back to his Sugar days. For better or worse, this is what I do. I think there’s a lot of people trying to aspire to make great albums.

Mould being Mould, there's a lining of darkness lending the song an edge ("Summer barely had a snowball's chance in hell"), but the song's fusion of punk dynamics, poignancy and pop songcraft gave him a model he's pursued ever since. Workbook, his first solo album, released in 1989, found Mould in austere mode, foregrounding his acoustic guitar prowess and harbouring folk-pop confections like See a Little Light and Heartbreak a Stranger.

Bob Mould was an angry young man in Hüsker Dü, and anger abounds on the empty spaces and meandering melodies of his 1989 solo LP Workbook. This expanded reissue includes a live set recorded in Chicago in 1989. Sunspots -the gentle, two-minute instrumental that opens Bob Mould’s 1989 solo debut Workbook-may be the softest, saddest fuck you in recorded history. Still stinging from the acrimonious breakup Hüsker Dü in 1988, the singer/guitarist formed a new trio to replace the old, this one with bassist Tony Maimone and drummer Anton Fier (who, among other accomplishments, served together briefly in Pere Ubu). That caliber of rhythm section had the potential to be at least as loud as Hüsker Dü’s. Instead, Mould turned down and turn his back on punk.

Sunshine Rock Lyrics. They don't love you like I love you I won't leave you in the dark Look above you, I will love you In the sunshine on the rock.
