In Style is the second solo album released by (then-)former lead singer of the New York Dolls, David Johansen. It was released in 1979 on Blue Sky Records. Consequently, In Style – featuring more pop-style songs such as "Melody" and "Swaheto Woman" – was designed to be more commercial.

David Roger Johansen (sometimes spelled David Jo Hansen; born January 9, 1950) is an American singer, songwriter and actor. He is best known as a member of the seminal proto-punk band the New York Dolls. He is also known for his work under the pseudonym Buster Poindexter. Johansen was born in the New York City borough of Staten Island, New York, to a librarian mother, Helen, and an insurance sales representative father who had previously sung opera. Johansen's family was Catholic.

David Johansen is a 1978 album by the rock musician David Johansen and his first solo album following his tenure as lead singer of the New York Dolls. The album was released on Blue Sky Records, a sub-label of Columbia Records that was associated with Johnny and Edgar Winter. David Johansen also features fellow New York Doll guitarist Sylvain Sylvain, who was a member of the David Johansen Band at that time. Sylvain co-wrote four of the songs with Johansen

1978 - David Johansen. 1982 - Here Comes The Night. 1993 - The David Johansen Group Live in 1978, featuring Johnny Thunders and Sylvain Sylvain. It's more straight-ahead rock & a few ballads. His first solo album is the best of the bunch- full of excellent songwriting & killer playing. The live album is great, too. I remember seeing him when he was touring in the late 1970's & the band he had with him (including Sylvain Sylvain, Buss Verno, Thomas Trask, Johnny Rao & Frankie LaRocka) was smokin' hot! Remember, you can't unsee something. Floridian1, Dec 31, 2008.

David Johansen (born January 9, 1950, Staten Island, New York, USA) is an American rock, punk, blues and pop singer, songwriter and actor. He is best known as a member of the seminal protopunk band the New York Dolls formed in 1971. The band disbanded in early 1977 but reunited in 2004. Since 1977, he has been active as a solo artist and collaborated with a number of other artists.

David Johansen's self-titled solo debut bears a closer resemblance to his work with the New York Dolls than any of his subsequent recordings, but the former Dolls singer cleverly crafted an album that played to his former band's strengths while establishing an identity of his own and delivering a set of tight but powerful hard rock
