Faith is the third studio album by British alternative rock band the Cure, released on 14 April 1981 by record label Fiction. Preceded by the single "Primary", the album was a commercial success in the UK, peaking at number 14 and staying in the albums chart for 8 weeks. It was mostly well received by critics. Faith saw the Cure continuing in the gloomy vein of 1980's Seventeen Seconds, which would conclude with the band's next album, Pornography.

The Violin Song ('Faith' studio guide vox out-take 2/81). 8. A Normal Story ('Faith' studio guide vox out-take 2/81). The whole band had a family member die, and that really colored Faith. The initial demos that we did in my mom and dad’s dining room are really quite upbeat. Then, within about two weeks, the whole mood of the band had completely changed.

Faith is about having gone through that and trying to discover what you can have faith in, the loss of innocence and growing older, as in Primary, and trying to sort out what your life’s about. Lol Tolhurst said similar to Record Collector in 1993: Around the time of Faith, there were a couple of things that happened to me and Robert that were quite upsetting. My mother was ill, and Robert’s grandmother – who he was pretty close to – died. Both myself and Robert went to a Catholic school, and were very heavily immersed in religion up until our teens. I knew that The Cure were considered fake in comparison, and it suddenly dawned on me that to make this album convincing I would have to kill myself. If I wanted people to accept what we were doing, I was going to have to take the ultimate step. Touring for the album was just as dark: The songs had a downward spiral effect on us.

Faith saw the Cure continuing in the gloomy vein of 1980's Seventeen Seconds, which would conclude with the band's next album, Pornography. Faith was the first album by the Cure to feature six-string bass guitar; "All Cats Are Grey" features Smith on keyboards and piano, with no guitar at all. The front cover, designed by former and future member Porl Thompson, is a picture of Bolton Priory in the village of Bolton Abbey in the fo. .

Faith is the third studio album by English alternative rock band The Cure, released on 14 April 1981 by record labels Fiction and Polydor. Preceded by the single "Primary", the album was a moderate success commercially but was received ambivalently by critics. Faith saw The Cure continuing in the gothic rock vein of 1980's Seventeen Seconds, which would conclude with the band's next album, Pornography.

Faith ‎ (LP, Album, RE). Fiction Records. This follows on from Seventeen Seconds in a similar vein. There’s some OK atmospheric tunes here, especially the title track which is the album highlight, again fairly minimalistic and overall a little gloomy. It flows well enough, the whole is probably more than the sum of the parts, but there’s nothing really captivating here. Reply See 1 reply 1 Helpful.

Melancholy and despondent (the feel of funerals and old churches just oozes from this record) without the anger that would over take Pornography, Faith comes off as not just a collection of songs, but as a full piece. The Holy Hour," "All Cats Are Grey," and the spectacular "Faith" are slow atmospheric pieces that take the softer elements from Seventeen Seconds, and - when sidled up next to faster tracks like the single "Primary" and "Doubt" - paint an overall picture of the ups and downs contained within a greater depressive period
