Carlos García Montoya (13 December 1903 – 3 March 1993) in Madrid, Spain, was a prominent flamenco guitarist and a founder of the modern-day popular flamenco style of music. He was the nephew of renowned flamenco guitarist Ramón Montoya. He first learned from his mother, "la Tula", and then from a neighboring barber, Pepe el Barbero, .
1960's reissue "Electronically Reprocessed" for stereo from the original LP Guitar Recital. Label: PRST-2928 Rear Cover: S-2928 Cover: 2928.
An album of discount flamenco from Carlos Montoya and a trio of other guitarists. The first half is taken up by pieces performed by the ageless Montoya and the second half performed by El Pili, Enrique Montoya, and El Nino de Alicante, along with a dancer adding the jaleos and castanets. Montoya performs excellently, as one would expect given his status in the history of flamenco.

This Montoya album easily meets or exceeds that standard. Track 5 "Alegria", alone, at a running time of over 9 minutes, is more than worth the price of this CD. Others tracks of that caliber follow, though not for quite as long. Montoya noticeably "sparks" when he's joined by dancers and singers on stage. The only way to listen to this music is to turn it up more than a bit to bring yourself closer to the reality of a "live" performance. There are many great Flamenco guitar masters. Each seems to have a different sensibility. Carlos Montoya is very exciting. Lots of strumming and quick changes in rhythm and tone. I love Sabicas, but I also love Montoya. They are different but both are great masters.
