Little Caesar & the Romans may have been the most deliberate purveyors of real and perceived nostalgia in the history of pop music. The group's first single, "Those Oldies But Goodies," stands or falls on its title's notion, while the follow-up single, "Hully Gully Again," depends on the recognition of the Olympics' earlier hit, "Baby Hully Gully. But few musical acts have gone broke courting nostalgia, and Little Caesar & the Romans were tailor-made for the oldies circuit a dozen years before such a circuit even existed. This brief set collects the essential singles from their two-year (1961-1962) stay at Bob Keene's Del-Fi Records, and includes the above three songs along with a handful of credibly done R&B covers.

Little Caesar & the Romans were an American musical group from Los Angeles active briefly in the 1960s. The group began recording in 1959 as The Cubans, but changed their name to The Upfronts after the political crisis in Cuba. Their first and biggest hit was the nostalgic tune "Those Oldies but Goodies (Remind Me of You)", a 9 Pop and 28 R&B hit in 1961. They broke up in 1962, at least partly due to an argument between lead singer Carl Burnett and member David Johnson (who performed the spoken-word portion of "Those Oldies but Goodies") as to which of them was Little Caesar. In 1975, Johnson put together a new Little Caesar And The Romans and recorded a single called "Disco Hully Gully". Members: Carl Burnett (Lead) David "Caesar" Johnson (Lead, Baritone) Johnny O'Simmons (Tenor) Early Harris (Tenor) Leroy Sanders (Bass).

Love is the eponymous debut album by the Los Angeles-based rock band Love, and was released in March 1966 on Elektra Records. Arthur Lee, who was originally from Memphis, Tennessee, but had lived in Los Angeles since he was five, had been recording since 1963 with his bands, the LAG's and Lee's American Four. He had written and also produced the single "My Diary" for Rosa Lee Brooks in 1964 which featured Jimi Hendrix on guitar.

About Little Caesar & The Romans. Near the end of the doo wop era, this Los Angeles group made the Top Ten with the nostalgic "Those Oldies But Goodies (Reminds Me of You)," a piano-based ballad that sounded a bit like a bridge between the Five Satins and Little Anthony & the Imperials.
