The Anthology of American Folk Music is a six-album compilation released in 1952 by Folkways Records (catalogue FP 251, FP 252, and FP 253), comprising eighty-four American folk, blues and country music recordings that were originally issued from 1927 to 1932. Experimental film maker Harry Smith compiled the music from his personal collection of 78 rpm records.

The fourth disc, also a DVD, is a Smith documentary, The Old Weird America: Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music, that puts his work into perspective. In addition to interview clips from Johansen, the late poet Allen Ginsberg, Earle, and others, the film also screens some of Smith's own short films and offers vintage performance footage of folk acts like the New Lost City Ramblers, Roscoe Holcomb, and others.

Compiled by experimental filmmaker and notable eccentric Harry Smith as the fourth album of his Anthology of American Folk Music set from 1952, it was never completed by Smith himself. While the CD is out of print, an LP version has been issued, along with the other three volumes, on the Portland-based Mississippi Records label. The original anthology jump-started the folk music revival of the 1950s.

Harry Smith, the project's complier, was a West Coast filmmaker, bohemian, and eccentric, who, around 1940, had begun to develop a hobby of collecting old blues, jazz, country, hillbilly, and gospel 78. The first album in the "social music" volume largely consists of music likely performed at social gatherings or dances. Many of the songs are instrumentals
