Prince opened his chart-topping soundtrack to 1989's 'Batman' with The Future, an angular, surprisingly dark slice of funk. To celebrate the incredibly prolific, influential and diverse body of work left behind by Prince, we will be exploring a different song of his each day for an entire year with the series 365 Prince Songs in a Year. Prince appeared set to leave the career-making decade of the '80s on a losing streak. But then Tim Burton came calling. The Batman soundtrack had all the makings of a money-grabbing tie in, since Warner Bros. served as both the studio for Burton's film and as Prince's label. But a funny thing happened on the way to that pile of cash.

Prince Rogers Nelson (June 7, 1958 – April 21, 2016) was an American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, dancer, actor and filmmaker. With a career spanning four decades, Prince was known for his eclectic work, flamboyant stage presence, extravagant fashion sense, and wide vocal range.

Prince has caused a stir by distributing his new album free in a British newspaper, one of many ways he is showing that he thinks differently about the music business. In Britain he infuriated retailers by agreeing to have a newspaper, The Mail on Sunday, include the complete Planet Earth CD in copies on July 15. (The album is due for American release this Tuesday. Presumably The Mail paid him something in the range of what he could have earned, much more slowly, through album sales. British fans have remunerated him in other ways. Prince apparently has to hold himself back to release only one album a year. He’s equally indefatigable in concert. On the road he regularly follows full-tilt shows - singing, playing, dancing, sweating - with jam sessions that stretch into the night.

Whitemaster
To join the "Batman" film remake production in the end of the eighties was the first and maybe biggest mistake Prince made in his "music industry" career. There are two brilliant songs there that can make you almost forget about this: "Scandalous", and "The Future". The British Remix version on this 7 inch of "The Future" shows, where Prince could have developed in the beginning nineties, withour needing to prostitute himself for some Warner Brothers money making but totally unnecessary and unimportantly evil film.
