The Best of Talking Heads is a greatest hits album by American rock band Talking Heads, released on August 17, 2004 by Sire, Warner Bros. Records, and Rhino Entertainment. The album peaked at number 87 on the ARIA Charts and number 96 on the Ultratop Charts in Belgium. All lyrics written by David Byrne, except where noted.
From their first gig opening for the Ramones in 1975 until the (eventually permanent) hiatus that followed the release of Naked in 1988, the Talking Heads released eight albums of music potently attuned to the absurdities and anxieties of late 20th century living.
New York’s Talking Heads were the first of the new wave/punk bands to make geekiness utterly cool. Over the years, the band moved from a jerky, nervous, punk-inspired sensibility to something smoother, with funkier, global, polyrhythmic beats and, finally, to pure pop. This collection includes choice cuts from each Talking Heads album. The Best of Talking Heads (Remastered) Talking Heads.
The Talking Heads are considered one of the best art rock bands and greatest musical artists of the 80s and late 70s. Fronted by music genius David Byrne, Talking Heads released some great music over the course of the band's career. Here's a list of the best Talking Heads albums, including pictures of the album covers. This Talking Heads discography is ranked from best to worst, so the top Talking Heads albums can and should be found at the top of the list.
Not that the 2004 Best of Talking Heads has every hit or well-known song - "I Zimbra," "Born Under Punches," "Crosseyed and Painless," "Swamp," and "Stay Up Late" could all have been here and all are missed - but at 18 tracks, this is a generous compilation and draws a better portrait of the band than not just the 1992. For the casual fan, this is likely all they'll need to have, and for others, it's a good place to get acquainted with the band.
I always loved the name Talking Heads too, I still think it’s one of the best band names out there. A cursory listen to the band's latest material should fill you in as to why it might be a task that means something to Ellis and his bandmates, vocalist Eoin Rooney and drummer Olly Betts. This is from their third album, Fear Of Music, also produced by Eno and released in 1979 – they churned out the albums one a year back then. It’s the first time they experimented with African influences – it’s based around overlapping rhythms with no chord changes, full of percussion, congas and chanted vocals.
How do you pick 10 of the best Talking Heads songs without it substantially resembling the setlist to Stop Making Sense – the greatest concert movie ever made, capturing the New York post-punk band at their peak in the winter of 1983? You can’t. The album closes with one of Talking Heads most successful singles, the drive-time radio ubiquitous Road to Nowhere. It opens with this deceptively clean-cut major-key jangler which, in the grand tradition of smuggling references to illegal drugs into chart hits, tells the story of a blissed-out hippie-chick in Baltimore whoused to drop acid in a field by the Yoo-hoo chocolate soda factory and fly high out of her mind above the city.
