Introspective is the third studio album by English synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys. It was released on 10 October 1988 by Parlophone. It is the duo's second best-selling album after Very (1993), selling over . million copies worldwide. It is so named because "all the songs, although it's a dance album, are introspective".

Visit the official Pet Shop Boys Shop here. On 10 October 1988 Introspective was released. So-called because all the songs, although it's a dance album, are introspective. The title was chosen after considering and dismissing f, Dogmatic, Bounce and Hello!. They reckon Introspective sounds serious, like an art exhibition: Nick Rhodes, said Chris at the time, will be so jealous. Introspective' has sold over . million copies worldwide to date and was the first to feature production by Trevor Horn, whose lavish orchestrations marked a new sonic direction for PSB. House Music legend, Frankie Knuckles created the mix of I want a dog while Domino dancing was recorded in Miami with hit producer Lewis Martinée. This ‘Catalogue’ re-issue features, along with the newly-remastered original album, bonus material such as demo versions of ‘Don Juan’ and ‘Domino dancing’, seven-inch and disco mixes of ‘Losing my mind’ and Left to my own devices’. Behaviour/Further listening: 1990-1991 (2018 remastered). Very/Further listening: 1992–1994 (2018 remaster).

The title isn't entirely an arch joke, however. Like Actually, Introspective was an exploration of distant, disaffected yuppies, which naturally resulted in a good deal of self-analyzation. Melodically, the essential song structures were as strong and multi-layered as the previous album, yet that was hard to hear beneath the varying rhythmic textures that composed the bulk of each track
