Terminate Damnation is the debut album by Christian progressive death metal band Becoming the Archetype. The title of the album was taken from the song "Terminate Damnation" from the Mortification album, Scrolls of the Megilloth. The album artwork was painted by Dan Seagrave, who has been commissioned to draw many metal album covers. Terminate Damnation was released on vinyl with a limited pressing of 500 by Broken Circles Records in 2011. March of the Dead" – 1:42. Into Oblivion" – 6:01.
Becoming The Archetype.
Also, they're Christian, but Jeremy Camp this ain't. During the nineties, it was almost impossible to participate in a discussion of Christian metal without mentioning Living Sacrifice, then-juggernauts of that genre. Their debut LP, Terminate Damnation is an exercise in calculated, technical aggression, tempered with the occasional clean breakdown and plenty of melodic influences. The band is also unashamedly Christian, working religious themes and ideas into their lyrics. Luckily for those who don’t like such things, the vocals on this album allow you to ignore the religious side of the band; if you aren’t listening carefully they’re usually unintelligible.
Becoming The Archetype is indeed a Christian metal band, but it rarely shines through in the lyrics. While I don't care for the religious aspect of this band- and some in the metal scene may very well blacklist the band immediately because of it- Becoming The Archetype's Christian themes are not overbearing enough to deter from the music, which is very good. The definitive highlight of 'Terminate Damnation' is 'Elegy', a longer piece which climaxes in a stunning piano furnished finale. The vocals are powerful to say the least, the guitars are insanely good, and the instrumentals aren't bad either. Prepare to "Terminate Damnation" with this album! The music itself focuses on being crushing, and then very soft. The instrumentals are anything but metal, and besides the full-length instrumental tracks, there's usually at least 2 on each track with lyrics.
