Vladimir Davidovich Ashkenazy (Russian: Влади́мир Дави́дович Ашкена́зи, Vladimir Davidovich Ashkenazi; born 6 July 1937) is an internationally recognized solo pianist, chamber music performer, and conductor. He is originally from Russia and has held Icelandic citizenship since 1972. He has lived in Switzerland since 1978. Moreover, Ashkenazy has had an acclaimed collaborative career, including an acclaimed recording of Beethoven's complete violin sonatas with Itzhak Perlman, as well as the cello sonatas with Lynn Harrell, and the piano trios with Harrell and Perlman. Midway through his pianistic career, Ashkenazy branched into conducting.

But don't you believe them. Take, for example, Itzhak Perlman's mid-'70s Decca recording of Beethoven's Kreutzer and Spring sonatas with pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy. But even in a showoff piece like the Kreutzer, the player is not the point; the music is the point. Read full description. See details and exclusions. See all 8 brand new listings.

Performers: Itzhak Perlman, violin Vladimir Askenazy, piano. There are two really famous Beethoven violin sonatas, the Kreutzer and the Spring. The Kreutzer Sonata inspired the story by Leo Tolstoy, which in turn became the subject of Janácek's First String Quartet, so if you're into comparative studies in the arts, there's a thesis topic for you! The Spring Sonata was featured in Woody Allen's Love and Death, among other places.
