Album cover design and jazz photography on the Blue Note Records. Notes and pictures from Birka Jazz Archive. Before Reid Miles took over as art director at Blue Note, he had worked as assistent to John Hermansader, who was a freelance designer working for Blue Note from his studio in New York. Really interesting and unique record. "Are You Real" is a dreamy jazz organ song, slow, dreamy... sounds like if a r+b act turned jazz or something. The second track follows suit. The third track is more up tempo, swings... most of the record is between these two modes. Le-O-Fa-Sa is perfect. I really love the mix of vocals and jazz, totally unique date. I don't know many records that sound like this, it's really unique and always a pleasure to put on. Noteable player is Hamiet Bluett (avant garde guy) but this isn't that type of date.
