Joe's Garage is a three-part rock opera recorded by American musician Frank Zappa in September and November 1979. Originally released as two separate studio albums (a single album and a double album) on Zappa Records, the project was later remastered and reissued as a triple album box set, Joe's Garage, Acts I, II & III, in 1987

Frank Zappa - The Man From Utopia (1983). Zappa’s 80s period tends to divide his hardcore fans. The trilogy of albums of which this is a part (and which also includes the albums Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch and Thing Fish) includes some of Zappa’s best late-period material, as well as some of his worst. Oddly, this was Zappa’s most commercially successful album (it was his first gold-selling disc), largely thanks to the freakish hit Don’t Eat The Yellow Snow.

Looking at Butcher now, at this the casually but carefully dressed woman in her 60s, as she nervously sips sparkling water in the Royal Garden Hotel, in west London, the experiences she describes in her memoir seem hard to believe, very far from the life that she lives now, as Mrs Bird, with her husband, a banker with Rothschild's, in Singapore. Zappa was a sexual libertarian and enthusiastic celebrant of "groupie culture", while his straight, conservative secretary was shocked and appalled by the sexual incontinence all around her, and the tensions in their relationship are instructive. Butcher sees the irony: "The only story I could write that no one else could write was this one, about living and working with Frank Zappa.

Even though Zappa himself hated punk rock and even says so on the album, his ideas seemed to support punk's do-it-yourself challenge to the record industry and to social norms in general. Since this is 1979-era Zappa, there are liberal applications of his trademark scatological humor (the titles of "Catholic Girls," "Crew Slut," "Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?," and "Keep It Greasey" are self-explanatory).

The late Frank Zappa made his first Guitar World cover appearance with the March 1982 issue, during the magazine's third year of publication. The cover calls him "America's Most Misunderstood Genius," and the story by John Swenson starts on page 34. To see a full photo of the first Frank Zappa cover, check out our photo gallery of all six GW covers from 1982. Here's part one of this Zappa interview. We'll post part two later this week. Frank Zappa was at the Palladium in New York for his perennial Pumpkin Day concert celebration with his most loyal fans.

A list of the Top 10 Frank Zappa albums. Zappa released four great albums during the 12-month period starting in October 1969. This was the second to reach shelves. Like 'Weasels Ripped My Flesh' (see No. 6 on our list of the Top 10 Frank Zappa Albums), 'Burnt Weeny Sandwich' reheats leftovers into tasty new morsels. 9. 'The Grand Wazoo' (1972). 8. 'Waka, Jawaka' (1972). Like 'The Grand Wazoo' (see No. 9 on our list of the Top 10 Frank Zappa Albums), 'Waka, Jawaka' plays around with various forms of fusion.
