Wild Child Butler With Special Guests Jimmy Rogers & Pinetop Perkins - Lickin' Gravy (CD, Album). Pinetop Perkins & Jimmy Rogers with Little Mike And The Tornadoes. Pinetop Perkins & Jimmy Rogers with Little Mike And The Tornadoes - Genuine Blues Legends (CD, Album).
Jimmy Rogers and Pinetop Perkins had a special and magical sound onstage together – a sound that would have been lost in time if it were not for Little Mike. This remarkable album captures that moment and the wonderful Chicago blues sounds that the two blues legends were able to seamlessly weave together on stage. This live recording comes to you raw and unscripted but with a remarkable clarity that belies its age and dated recording equipment. All in all this CD is a treasure; capturing two legendary bluesmen in their prime
George "Wild Child" Butler (October 1, 1936 – March 1, 2005) was an American blues harmonica player, and vocalist. Butler was born in Autaugaville, Alabama, and began playing blues music in bands in the late 1950s, but it was not until 1966 that he began to receive notice, after moving to Chicago and signing with Jewel Records. His early sessions were recorded with Willie Dixon, Cash McCall and Jimmy Dawkins as sidemen. He recorded an album for Mercury Records in 1969.
Everybody Got A Mojo 2. Gravy Child 3. Funky Butt Lover 4. None Of Nothing 5. Built For Comfort 6. I Love You From Now On 7. Spoonful 8. My Baby Got Another Man 9. Rooster Blues 10. Love Like A Butterfly 11. Speed.
George "Wild Child" Butler. Before it finally saw the light of day, this 1976 album had to undergo some overdubbing touchups a full decade later that replaced certain guitar tracks with Pinetop Perkins's keyboards.
Chicago blues legends Jimmy Rogers and Pinetop Perkins appear as special guests on three tracks recorded in 1986, including the rousing instrumental shuffle Speed. While Butler grooves well with both bands, the most dramatic track on this collection is his stark, unaccompanied None of Nothing, in which he testifies with extraordinary power on vocals while answering back on Delta-flavored harmonica. A raw. gem unearthed for the enjoyment of blues connoisseurs.
George 'Wild Child' Butler was a hugely talented harp player with a great voice, who made his best records after he left Chicago for Canada and Europe. Willie Dixon produced all his tracks, playing bass on many of them, and employing quality side-men like ‘Shakey’ Horton, Jimmy Dawkins and Cash McCall. Sales were not great, but George picked up some work as a side-man himself, touring and recording with Lightnin’ Hopkins. He cut an album for Mercury in 1969 and another, ‘Funky Butt Lover’ in 1976 for the TK label, again without much success, although the second of these re-appeared many years later, with the piano of Pinetop Perkins overdubbed, re-titled as ‘Lickin’ Gravy’ on the Rooster Blues imprint. Wild Child’ appearing on Paul Langan’s.
