Celebration (Kool & the Gang song). Celebration reached no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on February 7, 1981, and held that position for two weeks before being ousted by Dolly Parton's "9 to 5". It's the band's only no. 1 hit. By late 1980, the song had also reached no. 1 on both the Billboard Dance and R&B charts. The song featured heavily on the radio for nearly the entire year and is still heard today at weddings and parties, and is a popular anthem for sporting events, especially at the end of a championship win.

Kool & the Gang's sax player Ronald Bell, also known as Khalis Bayyan, told Billboard that the song came out of a time of religious study. The initial idea came from reading the Q'uran," he explained. That inspired me to write the basic chords and the line, Everyone around the world, come on, let's celebrate. The year was 1980 when I heard the hit "Celebration" singer rocked by " J. aylor". I was at a party on Saturday night in college where I studied starting then started to get better informed about this North American musical group and learned that his name was "KOOL & THE GANG" and that they were in Jersey City. This collection showcases the second and more successful phase of the career of Kool & the Gang. The tracks on this release date from 1979 through 1987. Coincidentally, lead singer James "JT" Taylor joined the group in 1979 and had a hand in writing most of the 17 tracks on this collection. Even though early hits such as "Jungle Boogie" and "Hollywood Swinging" are not included, Celebration is an excellent album filled with recordings that are indeed greatest hits.
