Larghetto Frédéric Chopin; Elizabeth Sombart; Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; Pierre Vallet. Award-winning French pianist Elizabeth Sombart is accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra led by Pierre Vallet on Chopin's two piano concertos, virtuoso pieces whose creativity had a significant impact on 19th century composition and radically altered the course of music history. Reflecting the spirit of traditional folk dance from the composer's native Poland, there is a strong sense of longing in these works, a wistful aching of the heart, which continues to transcend boundaries today

The unique flavour of his expression was intimately connected to the longing he felt for a world that was vastly different in make-up and feeling from anywhere today, but the power and appeal of his compositions have long outlasted the demise of their environmental origins. The music of Chopin has been a lifelong preoccupation for Elizabeth Sombart not only as a performer but also as a pedagogue, and indeed the methodical and phenomenological teaching of piano style and technique in the works of a very wide range of composers has been a major part of her life for many years.

The Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21, is a piano concerto composed by Frédéric Chopin in 1829. Chopin wrote the piece before he had finished his formal education, at around 20 years of age. It was first performed on 17 March 1830, in Warsaw, Poland, with the composer as soloist. It was the second of his piano concertos to be published (after the Piano Concerto No. 1), and so was designated as "No. 2", even though it was written first.

This version of the concerto (recorded in 1992) is very much appreciated by the musical experts.

This specific recording exists in at least five incarnations/labels, each with its own imagery most of which is available elsewhere so I am reluctant to upload covers for my German release "Tring"/RPO release as it probably isn't the exact release number from above. If anyone particularly wants the Tring version art work, PM me and I will be happy to do scans.
