Klaatu (/ˈklɑːtuː/) was a Canadian rock group formed in 1973 by the duo of John Woloschuk and Dee Long. After recording two non-charting singles, drummer Terry Draper was added to the line-up; this trio would constitute Klaatu throughout the rest of the band's recording career.
Hope, released in September 1977, is the second album by the Canadian rock group Klaatu. It won a Juno Award for "Best Engineered Album" and a Canadian Music Critics award for "Best Album" in 1977. An alternate version of Hope was released in 2005 as part of the group's Sun Set collection of rarities. The alternate version on Sun Set includes the complete contributions of the London Symphony Orchestra, which had largely been removed from the version released in 1977.
Klaatu frequently alternated between Beatlesque pop, the showy guitar rock and vocal theatrics of early Queen, and the electronic orchestral techniques pioneered by Walter Carlos, or worked all three into the structure of a four- or five-minute song.
This submission includes a "Klaatu Clues" insert from radio station WAMS, Wilmington, DE that promotes the conspiracy that Klaatu were actually the Beatles. Matrix, Runout (Label, side A): ST 1-11542. Great album, the best in the Klaatu catalogue in my opinion. Reply Notify me Helpful.
Nevertheless, Klaatu rarely performed live and recorded their second album and released it without any personnel mentioned by name, keeping an air of mystery about them. The album is quite work of progressive rock with strong pop melodies. It does indeed resemble the Beatles often, especially the songs with John Woloschuk on lead vocals. Klaatu concocted some really wonderful music on this album. Some might not like it because it's not complex enough, too much like the Beatles, or too sweet in pop melodies. But I have been enjoying the first five tracks immensely over the last two months and keep coming back to them again and again.
As with Klaatu's previous album "3:47 EST", "Hope" was remastered and re-issued in 2012 by the band's members, and was released on the band's independent record label "Klaatunes". The Loneliest of Creatures" – 3:52 (Woloschuk). Prelude" – 5:43 (Klaatu). So Said the Lighthouse Keeper" – 5:56 (Woloschuk). Hope" – 4:45 (Woloschuk).
