Ye (/jeɪ/; stylized as ye) is the eponymous eighth studio album by American rapper Kanye West. It was released on June 1, 2018, by GOOD Music and Def Jam Recordings. Following controversy surrounding his sociopolitical views, West re-wrote and recorded all the work on the album, completing it over the course of just two weeks at a ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It is his first studio album in two years since the release of The Life of Pablo in 2016.

ye is Kanye West’s eighth solo studio album. The seven-song album was premiered on June 1, 2018, at an exclusive listening party hosted in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where the album was primarily created. This listening party was also live-streamed on WAV Media. I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and, in the Bible, it means ‘you,’ so it’s I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from being Kanye, which means the only one, to just ye – just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything, that I’m just more of a reflection of who we are, just as beings. Kanye also revealed in this interview that after his infamous TMZ interview (in which he stated that he believes slavery was a choice), he completely re-did his album with an entirely new theme. The fate of the original songs is currently unknown.
Kanye West’s stint in Wyoming created an album born from chaos for chaos’ sake. Though it can be somewhat fascinating, it is undoubtedly a low point in his career. In the month leading up to ye, during which he and his team of producers and songwriters created the 24-minute album in its entirety, West proudly donned a Trump-autographed MAGA hat, sputtered that slavery seemed like a choice, and offered a steady stream of empty platitudes urging his followers to stop thinking so much and google dopamine.
Kanye West unleashed his highly anticipated eighth studio album, ye, on Friday (June 1). The 7-track project was premiered with a livestream on the WAV app to thousands of viewers spanning the globe. Yeezy was joined by family, friends, and members of the media outdoors at his creative safe haven in the mountainous Jackson Hole, Wyoming region for a unique listening experience with booming speakers surrounded by a bonfire. After calling out a few familiar faces in the crowd, he then passed the baton to the man everyone had been waiting to hear from, as the 40-year-old then cued up his opening track to be heard by the world. Ye boasts seven bristling tunes and clocks in at just over 20 minutes - and even though it's musically satisfying, you still are looking for more by the end of Kanye's most concise work to date.

For some, it even included a trip to Wyoming. Yet as the planned Friday release date for Mr. West’s new album approached, next to nothing was known about the much-anticipated project.
ye really does what a self-titled album should do: it says Hey, this is who I am. Even at 23 minutes, it almost feels like two different albums: an aggressive, dissonant one, and an empathetic, soulful one. Yet, those aren’t the two sides of Kanye, because those things exist in him simultaneously, all the time.
