The Newport Jazz Festival is a music festival held every summer in Newport, Rhode Island. Elaine Lorillard established the festival in 1954, and she and husband Louis Lorillard financed it for many years. They hired George Wein to organize the first festival and bring jazz to Rhode Island. Most of the early festivals were broadcast on Voice of America radio, and many performances were recorded and released as albums. In 1972, the Newport Jazz Festival was moved to New York City

Newport Jazz Festival 2007 by Ken Franckling, published on October 6, 2007 at All About Jazz. The spirit of late great jazz masters lives on through many of those who were influenced by them, and the 2007 JVC Newport Jazz Festival made those connections in a huge way. It was evident in a succession of bands taking to three stages at Fort Adams State Park on the Newport waterfront. It was as if Dizzy, Monk, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Mingus, Getz, Jobim and Bill Evans were hovering overhead at times, smiling at the way their musical offspring were moving the music forward.

Knowing there had been some collaboration when Davis and Monk were with Prestige I was excited think that here were two lives performances of two greats only to find that there us no collaboration in either recording. A wonderful opportunity for those who already know Miles and Monk to hear more of the kind of sound you love. Two giants at their best in a live recording. If you are unfamiliar with the music of these two greats, this CD is a fantastic introduction to their sound. One word of caution, however, though this is a great CD recording of Miles and Monk together, it is by no means the last word, or note, on the kind of music the artists are, or were, capable of.
Focuses on the final chapter in the landmark collaboration between Davis and saxophonist John Coltrane: their last live performances together. Recorded in support of Kind of Blue, the best-selling jazz album of all time. 4CD set includes concerts recorded in Paris, Copenhagen and Stockholm from original master tapes. 1LP features the concert from Copenhagen and 2LP features the concerts from Paris.
