Anthony B adopted Rastafari movement beliefs as a teenager, a decision which was not well received by his family. The stubborn and determined Anthony B refused to give up his new religion and his dreadlocks and moved to the home of his aunt and uncle in the Kingston suburb, Portmore. He is a member of the Bobo Ashanti branch of the movement. They were then called Tyrant and played several live shows in their local area and recorded a rough demo. Tobbe was soon replaced by frontman Nicke Borg on vocals and guitar, and Blomqvist switched to bass. Be strong, sang Buju Banton the last time he set foot onstage before a live audience. One day things must get better. Buju was joined by a star-studded lineup of fellow musicians and staunch supporters, from DJ Khaled and Sean Paul to Stephen Ragga Marley and Damian Jr. Gong Marley, to name a few. Buju opened his emotional set with Close One Yesterday, a song about surviving against all odds. Don’t you go down, he sang. Keep your head above the water. His final selection of the night was a prayerful rendition of Psalms 23 alongside Gramps Morgan: Goodness and mercy all my life shall surely follow me, And in Jah’s house forevermore my dwelling place must be. The Best of Buju Banton provides a concise look at his dancehall and reggae work, collecting definitive tracks, duets, and remixes.
