The Trail of the Lonesome Pine is a 1908 romance novel/western novel written by John Fox, Jr. The novel became Fox's most successful, and was included among the top ten list of bestselling novels for 1908 and 1909. The novel has been adapted numerous times for both stage and screen. The novel inspired the same-titled song published in 1913

F E7 Like the pine I am lonesome for you; G7 C A7 D7 In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, G7 C F G7 On the trail of the lonesome pine; Lyrics. On a mountain in Virginia Stands a lonesome pine. Just below is the cabin home Of a little girl of mine. Her name is June, and very, very soon She'll belong to me, For I know she's waiting there for me 'Neath that lone pine tree. In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, On the trail of the lonesome pine; In the pale moon shine our hearts entwine, Where she carved her name and I carved mine.

Comedy, that included "The Trail of the Lonesome Pine". Released as a single, the song reached No. 2 in the UK Singles Chart, thanks largely to being championed by disc jockey John Peel on his Radio 1 evening show. The song was also recorded by Vivian Stanshall and (as "Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia") by Tokyo Blade.

The International Rag - Arthur Collins & Byron G Harlan.

Frank Sinatra recorded "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" without the spoken bridge for his 1962 album, All Alone, and the Lettermen included the song on their 1964 album She Cried. Pat Boone recorded a version (also without the spoken bridge) in 1966 for his album, Memories. Doris Day recorded the song on June 6, 1967, for The Love Album. Helen In the late 1980s, comedian Sam Kinison performed the song on The Tonight Show. During the spoken word section, Kinison improvised some of his trademark humor, asking the woman in the song if she was "a reptile with a nice hairdo" and lambasting her for being unfaithful.
