This is an audio and video discography of Tristan und Isolde, an opera by Richard Wagner which was first performed on 10 June 1865 in Munich. Tristan und Isolde has a long recorded history. In the years before World War II, Kirsten Flagstad and Lauritz Melchior were considered to be the prime interpreters of the lead roles, and mono recordings exist of this pair in a number of live performances led by conductors such as Thomas Beecham, Fritz Reiner, Artur Bodanzky and Erich Leinsdorf.

Wagner: Tristan und Isolde, Act 2 - "So starben wir" by Fritz Uhl & Birgit Nilsson & Regina Resnik & Tom Krause & Wiener Philharmoniker & Sir Georg Solti. 3. Wagner: Tristan und Isolde, Act 2 - "Der öde Tag zum letzten Mal!" by Regina Resnik & Fritz Uhl & Ernst Kozub & Wiener Philharmoniker & Sir Georg Solti. Ultimately, I think it is a lack of an overarching concept in the style of Furtwängler or Knappertsbusch or Barenboim where Solti is somewhat lacking.

Composers: Richard Wagner. Tristan and Isolde, Act 3: "Mild und leise wie er lächelt" (Isoldes Liebestod). Birgit Nilsson, Wiener Philharmoniker and Hans Knappertsbusch. The 50 Greatest Performances of Classical Music.

It was an operatic marriage made in heaven that lasted for over twenty years and, thanks to recordings, continues to thrill music lovers around the world. Nilsson sang her first Wagnerian part in Stockholm. It was Senta in Der fliegende Holländer. It was greeted rapturously and throughout her long career it was for her Wagner and Strauss roles that she was most noted.
