The Average White Band (also AWB) are a Scottish funk and R&B band that had a series of soul and disco hits between 1974 and 1980. They are best known for their million-selling instrumental track "Pick Up the Pieces", and their albums AWB and Cut the Cake

Tree Frogs on "She's A Dream" recorded aimlessly at Elbow Beach. Street Noise on "Big City Lights" recorded under duress at Columbus Circle, .

1978's Warmer Communications was the last AWB album that went gold; by the time they came out with 1979's uneven Feel No Fret, AWB's popularity had decreased.

Produced by Arif Mardin, WARMER COMMUNICATIONS came on the heels of the band's 1977 album, BENNY AND US, with the recording process starting very early in that same yea. nd when we say "very early," we're talking February. It wasn't actually completed, however, until December, which begs the question, "What took so freaking long?" The answer: an album with Ben E. King.
