Rex is the fifth studio album by English rock band T. Rex and the first released under that name since changing their name from Tyrannosaurus Rex. It was released on 18 December 1970 by record labels Fly and Reprise. The album marked a further shift from the band's previous folk style to a minimal rock sound.

Marc Bolan and T. Rex have been called many things and mean even more to many people. What Bolan did was define an entire generation. Bolan lyrically finds a raw chord with Teenage Dream, a tune best heard in the waning hours of summer on the oppressive suburban porches. It’s candid, reaching, and an underserved track from the group. Though it can feel like the group fell into a groove, and not the one they so fondly sung about, the album brings everything a T. Rex fan could ask for. If nothing else, the award for greatest T. Rex album title goes to Zinc Alloy and the Riders of Tomorrow - without dispute. The phallic imagery and bravado glam playboy cometh with Tanx.

Rex are considered one of the best rock bands of all time and had one of the best frontmen in singer Marc Bolan. This T. Rex discography is ranked from best to worst, so the top T. Rex albums can be found at the top of the list. To make it easy for you, we haven't included T. Rex singles, EPs, or compilations, so everything you see here should only be studio albums.

The Wizard is the longest piece on the album, at about eight minutes, but interest is sustained nicely through changes in mood. One of the most fascinating aspects of T. Rex (other than Bolan’s voice, which Ray Dorset of Mungo Jerry copies quite poorly) is their ability to intermix vocal and instrumental sounds - the voices often go into a feedback guitar imitation.

And what could be more of an ironic tribute that a quarter-century after Bolan's untimely death in a car accident, his ballsy "20th Century Boy" became the soundtrack to a car advertising campaign? - -Jerry McCulley.
