The breakthrough album for Cat Stevens was released in 1970 and spurred on by four radio staples, it shot to number eight in the US where it has sold over three million copies. Wild World, Father And Son, Where Do The Children Play? and Hard Headed Woman are some of Stevens's most famous and popular songs that endure almost 50 years later on classic rock playlists.

Gold is a two-CD compilation of classic singles and album tracks by British singer-songwriter, Cat Stevens, now known as Yusuf Islam. It is part of Universal Music's series of double-disc anthologies derived from their extensive back catalog.

Cat Stevens trademark sound was established with the Tea For the Tillerman album. His vocal range allowed the expression of a broad spectrum of situations and characters. His greatest example was Father and Son, where he sang both baritone and tenor with equal authority. Many listened and thought his songs were meant specifically for them. His classics, like Wild World, Into White, and On the Road to Find Out are all centered on seeking purpose. Many artists were moving from theatrics to finding inner purpose during this time, from Joni Mitchell to Carole King, yet Stevens was thought off as one of the most spiritually determined.

Cat Stevens grew from being a teen idol of the 60s into one of the most influential singer-songwriters of all time. In addition to his vast musical achievements, his lifelong spiritual quest has added intrigue and depth to a ground-breaking career. Cat, born Steven Demetre Georgiou, achieved early success in the mid-60s with "I Love My Dog" and "Matthew and Son".
