This is an updated version of Washington Irving's well-known story of Rip Van Winkle and his long sleep. Our story tells of Rip's reactions when he awakens to find he has been peacefully napping for 200 years. In The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, a superstitious schoolteacher named Ichabod Crane attends a party where he hopes to catch the attention of the party host’s pretty daughter. Instead, he ends up listening to the other party guests telling ghost stories. On his way home from the party, he is stalked by a headless horseman. I actually found Rip Van Winkle to be a little creepier than Sleepy Hollow on this go around. Oh well, maybe when I read them again in ten years they'll flip positions.
