The long, long-delayed George Michael album "Trojan Souls" is still alive, according to a report in England's "Dot Music. The record, which a source close to Michael says features collaborations with 10 vocalists including Aretha Franklin, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Anita Baker, was halted over Michael's legal problems with his former label, Sony.

When the "Trojan Souls" project was announced way back when it was presented as GM writing, producing and arranging with vocals to be provided by other artists. The names I remember being involved were Anita Baker, Stevie Wonder and Luther Vandross. It was my impression the project never came to fruition. It would be a wonderful project if his estate commissions the completion of Trojan Souls using the singers he admired and influenced. It would highlight his talent for composing and musicianship. They could include a second CD of new recordings by singers covering George Michael songs. All net proceeds to the charities he supported. Only real singers though.

One album - Trojan Souls - dates back to the ‘90s and was supposed to feature vocals from Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Sade, Seal, Bryan Ferry and Janet Jackson. The Daily Mirror reported that the singer had two other nearly-finished albums that Michael scrapped: Extended Plaything and White Light (which was released as a single in 2012). After a month of trying to record in this fashion, the band abandoned the sessions and went on to record the platinum-selling Wish You Were Here. Prince - Dream Factory. Amy Winehouse - Unfinished third LP. When Amy Winehouse died in 2011 at age 27, many assumed that there would be a treasure trove of material producers could rework and release. Island Records cobbled together an assortment of tracks for Lioness: Hidden Treasures in late 2011, but demos the singer had recorded for her unfinished third LP were destroyed.

An 80-minute video showing singer George Michael recording his lost album ‘Trojan Souls’ has been posted to YouTube. The behind the scenes video shows George Michael hanging out in the studio working with musicians and backing singers. The start of the film, which was probably filmed in late 1992 or early 1993, shows Michael arriving at the studio with his partner Anselmo Feleppa. Michael’s plan for the album was to write a series of songs, but mostly have the sung by other artists. Among the talents lined up for the album were good friend Elton John alongside Anita Baker, Seal, Sade and Aretha Franklin.

George Michael – Trojan Souls. Although he got part of the way through, with some tracks completed, the project was put to one side when George had some personal stuff to sort out. How much would you have loved to hear George and Janet?! Sadly, their collaboration only reached instrumental stage, and with George sadly passing away in 2016, we may never get to hear these lost tracks.

Sessions was a compilation album by the Beatles planned for release by EMI in 1984 but never issued due to objections by the surviving Beatles. The album consisted of thirteen finished but unreleased Beatles songs. A planned single containing two of the tracks from Sessions – "Leave My Kitten Alone", backed with an alternative version of "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" – was also left unissued. The idea was resurrected in 1995 as The Beatles Anthology.
