Jayda Guy’s academic work and musical output have a common goal: Both are designed to make people to think about how they interact with their environments. The Canadian musician presented her master’s thesis about the effects of certain chemicals on an endangered West Coast orca species last year, and she recently started a talk series featuring young scientists. Following a string of excellent EPs and singles on labels including 1080p, Geography Records, and her own JMG Recordings, Significant Changes is the Berlin-based producer’s debut album. Like much of Guy’s previous work, the nine tracks here draw on influences including Chicago house, soul, disco, and 1990s R&B, but her references to the natural world this time around are more overt.

In stock now for same day shipping. Now firmly part of the Ninja Tune family, the Canadian has delivered a debut album that has set tongues wagging. With boisterous Alexa Dash collaboration "Leave Room 2 Breathe" and the skewed lo-fi disco warmth of "Move To The Front (Disco Mix)" being the lead singles -the set is packed full of top tracks that draw on a disparate range of complimentary influences (proto-house, Chicago house, deep house, dreamy breaks, disco, electrofunk etc).

Known for her prolific, high-energy performances as a DJ, she followed up an Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1 with a stint on the R1 Residency, and has toured relentlessly throughout 2019, taking in shows across 12 countries including performances at Primavera Sound, Kala and Lente Kabinet (Dekmantel's sister.

Jayda G’s debut album, ‘Significant Changes’, is going to save lives. On the spacious, string-laden ‘Missy Knows Whats Up’, there’s a controlled spoken sample from Misty MacDuffee, a biologist with the Raincoast Conservation Foundation, who recently won a court case against the Canadian government for its policies against killer whales. Significant Changes’ is at once both ludicrously fun and inquisitive, knowing exactly when to fuse Jayda G’s learnings and passions into music that’s, quite clearly, full of heart and wisdom.

Jayda G will release her debut album ‘Significant Changes’ through Ninja Tune on March 22. The nine-track outing comprises Jayda G’s trademark soulful and freaky take on disco and house, with long-time friend and collaborator Alexa Dash lending vocals to two tracks. The Canadian artist completed the album in 2018, and in the same year completed a Masters in Resource and Environmental Management specialising in environmental toxicology

Unleashing her album Significant Changes onto the grateful ears of electronic music fans, the Canadian DJ and producer not only showcases her productional prowess through these eleven tracks, but also cleverly combines her two passions, electronic music and sea mammals. Jayda G will be delivering her favoured tracks at this year’s Lovebox Festival, taking over London’s Gunnersbury Park on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th July.

Bad Sunny
IMO an early contender for the list of 2019's best albums. Jayda G confidently delivers a very satisfying debut release that encompasses elements of deep house, soul and disco. It's fun, upbeat and conscious...so it's very much in the spirit of Chicago. Highlights for me include "Renewal (Hyla Mix)", "Leave Room 2 Breathe", "Sunshine in the Valley" and "Move to the Front (Disco Mix)". Bravo and well done - 4/5.
