Vincebus Eruptum (/vɪŋˈkeɪbəs ɪˈrʌptəm/; pseudo-Latin) is the debut album of American rock band Blue Cheer. Released on January 16, 1968, the album features a heavy-thunderous blues sound, which would later be known as heavy metal. It also contains elements of acid rock, experimental rock, blues rock, stoner rock, and garage rock.

Blue Cheer was an American rock band that initially performed and recorded in the late 1960s and early 1970s and was sporadically active until 2009.

Vincebus Eruptum sounds monolithically loud and primal today, but it must have seemed like some sort of frontal assault upon first release; Blue Cheer are often cited as the first genuine heavy metal band, but that in itself doesn't quite sum up the true impact of this music, which even at a low volume sounds crushingly forceful.

50 years on, does Blue Cheer's debut Vincebus Eruptum deserve its status as the first metal/heavy album? And, even if it does, does that make it any good? . The first ever Classic Rock Album Of The Week Club kicked off this week, with a landmark album that’s 50 years old this week: Blue Cheer’s Vincebus Eruptum. Arguably the first metal album, this is proto-metal at its finest. The sound quality isn't great, but this version on the Sundazed label in the original mono mix is the best you'll hear of this album.

Kriau
I agree with cecirising user from the one side. Of course it's not metal BUT from the other side, as beatlekid123 says (and I agree), "this is proto-metal at its finest". Yes, the roots of Black Sabbath, Budgie or Judas Priest is here...in this music album. And Blue Cheer opened the way to this hard or heavy rock or metal....

Jwalextell
Well to be honest, they are not metal at all, their stuff was REALLY CLOSE to Jimi Hendrix's music, which means they were more Blues,Psychedelic Rock in my opinion,i don't hate Blue Cheer,i respect them, but i just don't think they're not metal, not one bit.

Galanjov
Do all of the Sundazed mono copies have stereo labels?

HelloBoB:D
My copy says Monaural on the label. A reply has to be 10 words so I added some. Are you happy now discogs?.......Well, are you?

wanderpool
Never found out for certain, but I would guess that's the case.

Gold Crown
Got a copy of the sundazed mono and mine has a stereo label also. Did you ever find out if this was the case for all copies of mono?
