Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune (L. 86), known in English as Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, is a symphonic poem for orchestra by Claude Debussy, approximately 10 minutes in duration. It was composed in the year 1894, the same year that the piece was first performed. It was first performed in Paris on 22 December 1894, conducted by Gustave Doret. The flute solo was played by Georges Barrère.

Images pour orchestre, L. 122, is an orchestral composition in three sections by Claude Debussy, written between 1905 and 1912. Debussy had originally intended this set of Images as a two-piano sequel to the first set of Images for solo piano, as described in a letter to his publisher Durand as of September 1905. However, by March 1906, in another letter to Durand, he had begun to think of arranging the work for orchestra rather than two pianos.

Performers: Choir – Wayne State University Women's Glee Club (tracks: 13 to 15) Chorus Master – Malcolm Johns (tracks: 13 to 15) Composed By – Debussy (tracks: 13 to 19), Ravel (tracks: 1 to 12) Conductor – Paul Paray Orchestra – Detroit Symphony Orchestra. In this recording, you get to hear the absolutely best performance of "Bolero" ever commmitted to disk. Paul Paray recorded this in the early days of stereo, and it hasn't been bettered since. The way the conductor controls the momentum and inexorably builds to a truly shattering climax is amazing. The Debussy "Nocturnes" is given a highly effective performance as well. Paray's clouds drift by more quickly in the "Nuages" movement when compared to the lazy pace of other conductors, while the "Fetes" movement carries the listener along on the crest of its own excitement.

Debussy: Iberia Nocturnes, Ravel: Rhapsodie Alborada Stokowski. In this sense there were five notable exceptions in the orchestral direction: the Alsatian Charles Munch, Pierre Monteux, Paul Paray, Jean Martinon and Louis de Fremaux. But if not for the singular contributions of these three other conductors such Leopold Stokowski, Igor Markevitch and Andre Cluytens, the final destiny of the French music would have been less known.
