Mariza Nunes (born December 16, 1973 in Mozambique) is a fado singer-songwriter on the World Connection label. She moved to Portugal when she was three, and was raised in one of the most traditional quarters of Lisbon, Mouraria, where she learned how to sing fado. She has a Portuguese father but her mother is from Mozambique (the song Transparente is a tribute to her African grandmother).

Terra is the fourth studio album by Portuguese fado singer Mariza, released on 30 June 2008. At the Latin Grammy Awards, it was nominated for both Best Folk Album and Best Producer. Contributions from Cape Verdean singer Tito Paris, Argentine guitarist Dominic Miller, and Spanish singer Concha Buika give Terra a jazz, African, and Latin influence. Also included at the end of the album is a cover of Charlie Chaplin's famous ballad, "Smile".

Even in this first album, Marisa was already totally mature vocally and demonstrated her incredible range by singing a wide variety of styles with the same skill and with a marked personality. An essential album for all Marisa Monte fans. Even on this early record you can hear Marisa's genius. This album may be uneven, but there are some brilliant pieces. In particular, Xote das Meninas is a suprising, soulful, inspired production. Marisa shows an extraordinary sense of improvisational timing.

Marisa Monte, a very warm, charismatic, and vulnerable artist, turned out to be one of Brazil's top female vocalists of the 1990s. Mais proves that her popularity is well deserved. Most of the songs on this CD, which did a lot to establish her success, are quite memorable - including the humorous "Diariamente," the charming "Rosa," and Caetano Veloso's playful "De Noite Na Cama. Drawing on both Brazilian and American influences, Monte is someone who, with the right exposure, could easily become as prominent in the . But whether or not one understands the lyrics, this is an album to savor.
