Return to Forever is a jazz fusion group founded and led by pianist Chick Corea. Through its existence, the band has had many members, with the only consistent bandmate of Corea's being bassist Stanley Clarke. Along with Weather Report and Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever is often cited as one of the core groups of the jazz-fusion movement of the 1970s.
Nonetheless, Return to Forever is every bit as classic, using a similar blend of spacy electric-piano fusion and Brazilian and Latin rhythms. It's all very warm, light, and airy, like a soft breeze on a tropical beach - hardly the sort of firebrand approach to fusion that Miles Davis, Tony Williams, and the Mahavishnu Orchestra were exploring, and far less rooted in funk or rock.

Return To Forever biography Founded in NYC, USA in 1972 - Disbanded in 1978 - Reformed briefly in 1983 & 2008 - Active Live since 2010. RETURN TO FOREVER was jazz keyboard player Chick COREA's jazz-rock fusion band of the 1970s. Like WEATHER REPORT and the MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA, it was a group formed by an alumnus of Miles Davis' late-'60s bands with the intention of furthering the jazz-rock hybrid Davis had explored on albums like Bitches Brew. That summer, RETURN TO FOREVER recorded its fourth album, "Where Have I Known You Before", which was released in September. Backed by an extensive tour that ran through December and closed at Carnegie Hall, the album reached the pop Top 40 and remained in the charts more than five months. The band went back into the studio in January 1975 and quickly cut its fifth album, "No Mystery", which was released in February.
Return To Forever by Chick Corea. A little about the artist:< Chick Corea has been, since his earliest recordings in the late 60s, one of the frontrunners in modern jazz. While this piano (and other keyboard) player finds himslef most comfortable in the jazz-rock fusion setting, Corea has also been known to play standards with his acoustic band and post-bop piano trio music as well. Probably the most significant boost to Coreas career (say THAT 5 times fast) was his stint with Miles Davis. This is the original lineup of Return to Forever, and in my opinion the best. The group looks great on paper, but the mixture of these talents far outshines the sum of their greatness. Lets break it down track by track: 1. Return to Forever (12:06) The song named for the album that would eventually be the bands name is also the opener here. Things start out sort of spooky, with a little vamp on Chicks fender rhodes.
