The Brilliant Voice ‎(Cass, Comp). Tring International PLC. MCGAL036. The Brilliant Voice ‎(Cass, Comp).

The Golden Voice of Jose Carreras. 2. Invitato a qui seguirmi ogni suo aver. 3. La donna è mobile. I Lombardi alla prima Crociata, opera. 4. La Mia Letizia Infondere. Un ballo in maschera, opera. 5. La rivedra nella estasi. 7. Marcello, Finalmente. 8. Mostro d'Averno orribile.

Jose Carreras is one of the finer tenors of his era, without much question. This 2 CD set illustrates why one can say that. The first CD displays his operatic skills; the second focuses on more popular tunes, such as "O sole mio," "Funiculi funicula," and "Tonight. Does the voice soar about voices and orchestra? Not really-but it's still a pretty good effort. All in all, another nice effort. Many of the operatic songs were recorded in the late 1970's.

Exclusively for Prime members. Sample this album Artist - Artist (Sample). Performance overall is excellent with the exception of a few plodding tempos, but engineering is "Grade B" and lacking in bass. Also the sound is somewhat low level and lacking in impact in the Act 3 choruses. All the principals: Baltsa, Carreras, van Dam, Ricciarelli: are excellent as is the Berlin Philharmonic. Karajan's tempos and phrasing show many years' familiarity with Carmen. This DG recording (1983) pales in comparison with Karajan's 1963 RCA Carmen with Leontyne Price, Franco Corelli, Mirella Freni and the Vienna Philharmonic.

José Carreras Sings Catalan Songs is a 1991 Sony Classical album featuring José Carreras and the orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu conducted by Joan Casas. The songs are more classical lieder than Mi Otro Perfil, an earlier release of Spanish and Catalan songs with Orchestra Zafiro. Grieg T'estimo (originally German Ich liebe dich). Cançó del lladre - Song of the Thief. El testament d'Amelia. Rosó from Pel teu amor.

José Carreras: José Carreras, Spanish operatic lyric tenor known for his rich voice and good looks. As one of the Three Tenors (together with the Italian singer Luciano Pavarotti and the Spanish singer Plácido Domingo), Carreras helped find a larger popular audience for opera. Carreras’s operatic career was punctuated by forays into popular music. Having previously sung the role of Tony on a recording of Leonard Bernstein’s and Stephen Sondheim’s West Side Story (1984), Carreras released Hollywood Golden Classics, an album of popular songs, in 1991.
