It Might as Well Be Swing is a 1964 studio album by Frank Sinatra, accompanied by Count Basie and his orchestra. It was Sinatra's first studio recording arranged by Quincy Jones. This was Sinatra and Basie's second collaboration after 1963's Sinatra-Basie. Sinatra's cover version of "Hello Dolly" on the album features a new second verse improvised by Sinatra, which pays tribute to Louis Armstrong, who had topped the Billboard charts with his own version of the song earlier in 1964.

While that music is great, sometimes it didn't swing. And also it helped me to understand why many believe Sinatra was the greatest popular singer of the 20th century. He does not have the range of Streisand, Sarah Vaughn or Whitney Houston. His sound may not be as mellow as Como or Johnny Mathis. He may not be as soulful as Marvin Gaye. But you can understand every word he says. And in front of this Jazz orchestra, he meets the challenge of swinging hard as well as any ( black) jazz singer could. This is great music and a must have for any jazz aficionado. His tribute to Louis Armstrong on " Hello Dolly" is something special.

Frank Sinatra and Count Basie's second collaboration, It Might as Well Be Swing, was a more structured, swing-oriented set than Sinatra-Basie, and in many ways the superior album. The album consists of then-recently written songs, arranged as if they were swing numbers. The results work splendidly, not just because arranger/conductor Quincy Jones found the core of each of the songs, but because Basie and his band were flexible
