Beethoven: Symphony N. In D Minor, O. 25 - "Choral", 4. - Presto- "O Freunde, nicht diese Töne!" -Allegro assai by Anna Tomowa-Sintow & Agnes Baltsa & Peter Schreier & José van Dam & Berliner Philharmoniker & Herbert von Karajan & Wiener Singverein. My feeling is that this new release probably utilized the earlier remix but boosted the bass in the mastering phase for a more natural presentation. I also compared this release (1977) directly with the earlier 1962 recording on SACD which, until now, has always sounded much better than this recording.
125, byname the Choral Symphony, orchestral work in four movements by Ludwig van Beethoven, remarkable in its day not only for its grandness of scale but especially for its final movement, which includes a full chorus and vocal soloists who sing a setting of Friedrich Schiller’s poem An die Freude ( Ode to Joy ). The work was Beethoven’s final complete symphony, and it represents an important stylistic bridge between the Classical and Romantic periods of Western music history

Ludwig van Beethoven. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 started life as two separate works - a symphony with a choral finale, and a purely instrumental work in D minor. He labored on these sporadically for almost 10 years before finally deciding (in 1822) to combine the two ideas into one symphony, with Friedrich von Schiller's Ode an die freude (Ode to Joy) - a text he had contemplated setting for a number of years - as the finale.
