The Rood Project – Thunder. Posted in Tune Of The Day By Benct On April 8, 2013. The Rood Project consisted of Mel Tanur (better known as Bay B Kane ) and Sheryl Morrison. The duo combined for a small number of releases on White House Records and Basement Records between 1993 and 1995 and produced the focus of this post the ground breaking tune Thunder. Thunder could be considered to be one of the first Intelligent drum and bass tracks. At the time the tune was released in 1994 the Intelligent drum and bass sound was in its infancy with Bukem just starting to break through

Bay B Kane I must mention one more very important point in time, which was the time I collaborated with a young American lady named Sherry…together we created “The Rood Project”, and after an initial EP we released through Symphony Sounds, we produced what was to become my biggest ever hit to this day: THUNDER. Sherry was one of a kind and I’ve never met anyone who got under my skin as much as this girl, and she was an inspiration to say the least. The first time I played “Thunder” to Whitehouse it totally blew them away, and it pretty much blew everyone else away from there on and was a huge hit. I lost count of how many compilations we licensed it to and how many djs were chasing me for dubplates before it was released, but only four djs had that privilege and they were: Peshay..Randall..Mickey Finn and Bukem. And I wanna take this opportunity to thank them right here for all that they did for me and for the music on the whole…Nuff Respect!

Repress. Boom! When lightning and thunder clap we call 'drop'!You heard right! Repress by Underground Music just released today...https://undergroundmusic.bandcamp.com/album/thunder

I have read that a repress is planned. 10 words.

You know I've changed my mind on this release. I guess I never really gave it a proper listen but both sides are pretty nice. I'm probably a minority on this but I favor Peshay's Ariel Assault Mix over the original. Before the masses come to crucify me- yes the original is good, yeah the sub bass is nice- I just like the Peshay mix more. Those strings in the beginning remind me of My Bloody Valentine, the atmospherics, and I dig the breaks more on this mix- especially the change up midway through.

How anyone could describe this tune as mediocre is beyond me. Sure music is a matter of opinion, but this track is just so good. Not a game-changer in that there were other tracks around with similar breaks and a similar style, but the way this tune holds the sub-bass back so long before wiping everyone in the club out is incredible. If you were there at the time you will know.

Fukk yes! totally agree with you there mate!!! 10 words

One of my best early DnB choons still gives me the goose pimps

yes mate... very special track from back in the days ;)

Not many pressed, and i have to say this is an awesome tune, its nowhere near as that first jungle tune http://www.discogs.com/LT-Bukem-Logical-Progression/master/189910 but still good , I heard this on radio in Leicester 1994. Tracked it down finally, got it cheap but it pops a bit.

I have to agree with IRL303, this is well over priced for average D'nB tune of the time, it was good but did not stand out enough to be worth this sort of cash. These records will depreciate in value, if you want it wait a few years..or search around for much cheaper similar releases

You could always hold out for another 14 years and hope it comes down in price by the time you reach 60!!

I've been looking for a decently priced copy of this for a number of years. Still none have turned up. They generally always sell for about £25 to £30. It's yet to depreciate in value in the 14 years I've been waiting!

In my all-time Intelligent jungle / drum n bass top 10 list. Lots of wicked early 90's style bleeps, deep emotional strings sent straight from the heavens, distant and mysterious female vocal vox samples and serious sub bass all feature on this truly fantastic track.Big tip!

The remix is okay but the original is a classic, IMO.

That's right. You can't beat the original.

€71 for this mediocre tune...Scandalous.

overpriced, absolutely! mediocre? nah man, not at all, the backside is even more dangerous than the front! its a solid tune man, don't downplay it

Everyone has an opinion, but LOL this track is one of the all time top 50 jungle tracks. Undisputed fact!

This is my favourite drum n bass tune of all time. Many people seem to have forgotten it ever existed. It was ground breaking in many ways, I consider it to be 'the first' "intelligent" drum n bass track, a good few months before Bukem started doing the same sound. The track starts of with lush strings and female vox "ooh" "ahh", etc... the intro is loooooong, before dropping into HUGE mashed up amen and HEAVY bass that might destroy you're speaker if you're not careful. Totally underrated and awesome.

FYI: LTJ did intelligent in 1992 with "Demons Theme"
