Blackberry Blossom is an album by American guitarist Norman Blake, released in 1977. In this way, his true artistry grows each time the listener places a disc like Blackberry Blossom in the CD player

Norman Blake had barely begun his solo career in 1977 when he recorded Blackberry Blossom. This album finds Blake's artistry already fully developed, with the material divided between traditional songs and instrumentals. All nine cuts feature Blake's nifty guitar and mandolin work, with occasional back up from Nancy Blake on cello. This seven-minute portrait is filled with fascinating chord changes and tender lyrics. All of the songs on Blackberry Blossom are delivered in Blake's straightforward manner, both down-to-earth and emotive. It is perhaps easy to take an artist as uncomplicated as Blake for granted: he never seems to be going out of his way to impress the listener with fancy guitar licks or vocal hysterics. Instead, he imbeds himself in tradition, offering honest interpretations and fresh originals that are respectful of their roots.

I first heard 'Blackberry Blossom' by Norman Blake over 20 years ago as a college student cruising the local record store. This was playing in the store and I bought it on the spot. That cassette wore out years ago and I was thrilled when 'Blackberry Blossom' was recently rereleased on CD. I knew nothing about bluegrass before I heard this album so that day marked the beginning of a long and wonderful friendship. 7 people found this helpful.

Blackberry Blossom is an album by American guitarist Norman Blake. Blackberry Blossom may also refer to: "Blackberry Blossom" (tune), a traditional fiddle tune. Flower of the blackberry. Blackberry Blossom (tune). Blackberry Blossom" is a fiddle tune in the key of G major. It is classified as a "breakdown" and is popular in old time, bluegrass and Celtic traditional circles.

I have been wondering how long it would take someone to post this here. It only took eight years! Norman Blake does a typically glittering rendition of Blackberry Blossom on his album of the same title. It’s not difficult to flatpick on the guitar in standard tuning but it took me a while (and a bit of experimentation with pick gauges) to get it up consistently up to speed. Bluegrass players tend to play this at dangerously high speeds.
